Mark C. Dawkins

Biography

Mark C. Dawkins, CPA, CMA, is an Associate Professor of Accounting in the J.M.Tull School of Accounting

at the University of Georgia (UGA).  He has been on the faculty at UGA since Fall 1994.  He received his Ph.D.

in Accounting from Florida State University, and his MBA (finance) and MACC (auditing) degrees from the

University of Florida.  He received his B.S. in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

 

Professor Dawkins teaches Financial Accounting (intermediate and MBA financial accounting), and directs the 

internship program for accounting students at UGA.  His research interests include bankruptcy, market effects

of information asymmetry, and market reactions to information disclosures.  He has published in The Journal

of Finance, the Journal of Financial & Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and

Finance, the Journal of Business, Finance & Accounting, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the

Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal, the Journal of Managerial Issues, and others.

 

Professor Dawkins was a co-recipient of the 2006 and 2003 Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Teacher of the Year

award at UGA, and received the 2006 and 2003 Alpha Kappa Psi Accounting Teacher of the Year Award. 

He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants,

the National Association of Accountants, the Georgia Society of CPAs, and the PhD Project
(www.phdproject.org).

 

Professor Dawkins co-coordinates the GSCPA High School Residency Program (HSRP) at UGA.  This
4-day on-campus program is designed to expose high school students to career opportunities in accounting. 
The HSRP is co-hosted by the Georgia Society of CPAs and the Terry College of Business at UGA, and is
funded by student sponsorships from accounting firms, publicly held corporations, and private individuals. 

Professor Dawkins also serves as Program Director of the LEAD Summer Business Institute @ Terry 
(www.leadnational.org).  This three week summer program encourages rising seniors from underrepresented
backgrounds to pursue careers in business.  The program exposes students to the foundations of a business
curriculum, and complements the instruction with high-level site visits to Atlanta corporations. The students
also compete in a business case competition, and present business plans for their own new-venture ideas.
